Fishermans Paradise Sub-Committee - Current Projects

Ideas for Fishermans Paradise video

Project name
A Safe and Active Fishermans Paradise - bench seats for our streets

Project Summary

To install bench seating and defibrillators for Fishermans Paradise Village to promote safety, physical activity and community connection.

The project is being undertaken by our local Fishermans Paradise Residents Group who have
been meeting since the Black Summer Bushfires. After the fires there was a strong feeling
in the community that we needed significant improvements in our infrastructure and our
ability to connect and organise together.

In 2023 we formed a Sub-Committee of the Conjola Community Consultative Body (CCB) and in December we began a consultation with the residents to determine the priorities for resources and activities to improve life in the village. As a result, we have developed this project which we believe will help us begin the development of the better physical and social infrastructure we need locally.

Fishermans Paradise is a community of 500 people and is quite physically isolated, with only one road in and out and no walking tracks to other settlements. We have daily school buses and a Thursday Shopper bus to Nowra as well as privately operated coaches which can be  accessed at the Princes Highway outside the village. There is no shop in the village.

The creation of positive and supported physical activity is a high priority.

This project aims to promote both gentle physical activity and social connection within our
community by:
  •  Installing comfortable outdoor benches in the streets – including on the road to Princes
Highway to assist less mobile and short-of-breath residents to walk and rest safely;
  • Establishing, in collaboration with our partners, Ulladulla and Districts Community
Resources Centre, community-led Walking Groups for physical activity and social connection;
  • Installing defibrillator hubs in the village to assist in a crisis;
